The Desert - A Poem
THE DESERT
Depression hangs over me,
a victim of the clouds
No sunlight to uncover me,
just a gray, smothering shroud.
Oh how I long for the sun,
and the hot, bright desert,
Where the rain never runs
and there’s no dirt
To muddy my feet,
just sand and heat
To dry my tears,
parch my soul
Strangle my fears,
the sun so bold
It’s blinding,
the view so bare
It binds me to the air.
I can sweat till I melt
And not fret over what I’ve felt
In the past;
the desert absorbs me
The sand blasts the depression
hanging over me,
Makes me light as a breeze
rustling through
The graceful Joshua trees,
nothing left for me
To do but be free.
