Bereft - A Poem
BEREFT
His snoring
Was abhorring
And totally boring
But his kiss
Was a bliss
That she missed
Very much,
Ah, his touch
was such
A wonder,
She hungered
For the thunder
Of his love.
Above
The covers
There hovers
The face
Of her lover
It graced
That place
With its wild
Cheshire smile,
Like a child
She sits
In awe of it,
Trying to fit
The pieces together,
She thought they’d last forever;
Now her heart is broken
No tokens
Are left,
Just unspoken
Words
Left unheard.
She is bereft
And sad
And going mad
Over him,
His silly whims
Are dimming
He was bad
But now
Somehow
She finds him
Not the cad
He seemed
At the time.
Her dreams
And schemes
Are hers
But he is not
Her plans
Are shot,
That man
Can
Never
Ever
Be hers
Again.
Her head
Is throbbing
As she lay sobbing
Deep in her bed,
The day
Comes
And the Blue Jay
Hums,
But she is deaf
And dim.
She is still bereft
And sad
And going mad
Over him.
